the theme song for my year

mike_monteiro_makeit_500px_artworkimage

I will admit that I am now getting antsy. It's been a year (OMG!!) since my husband packed up and left me behind in South Carolina to go play war in the Iraqi desert.

At that point, I thought that things couldn't get any worse. I should have checked my thoughts at the door because it seems that the general way of the world since then has indeed been nothing BUT worse.

Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a great old Mountain Goats' song "This Year" about six months ago. It became my theme song and carried me through the late fall and winter.

But things have gotten old and the lyrics started to lose their impact. Really, it's time that this is over and I get to have a normal life, even in the midst of record unemployment and general financial doom.

Leave it to Jen Berkman and 20x200 to offer me a last thread to hang onto. And of course thank you, Mike Monteiro. As soon as I can afford it, this print will grace my walls as a reminder that we can handle anything life throws us. At least for a year.

hope

il_430xN.51021070

Tonight, despite all the chaos in life, in the midst of cold and the snow and the imminent loss of power, I feel spring is near, my husband will return soon and the next 2 years will be full of joy.

This print from blissful images, one of my favorite etsy photographers, should be appropriate to commemorate the day.

what's new is new

bold&noble print

Yet another sentiment that's not only appropriate for the times, but just as appropriate for our entryway.

Loving this print from Bold and Noble.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. David, I know you're in Iraq and all, but are you noticing trend here?

score

chaize_praia_piquinia

20x200 did not disappoint today. I got not one, but two, limited edition prints by Christian Chaize within minutes of receiving notice of today's release. (And if you want yours, read no further and do the hustle-buck to 20x200 now!)

With the exception of Clemson wiping the court with Duke, this has been the highlight of my week.

Thank you, Jen Bekman, for allowing us simple folk to purchase art even in these times of economic doom.

what's old is new

So what if we've all seen this poster everywhere lately? With the ways of the world these days, I know that I need the reminder.

"Now tell me, which one of these dogs would you want to have as your wide receiver on your football team?"

It might be because one of my favorite movies ever is "Best in Show." Or, it could be my ongoing obsession with all things canine.

Whatever the case, I must have this print by artist Dolan Geiman.

Oh, and for running back? Because CJ Spiller is not a dog, and therefore not an option and my little man has an odd gait, I'm going to go with Maggie Adams, Sooner's girlfriend in Atlanta.

the lines between artist and designer

nathan_dining

Ever since the finale of "Top Design" a few months ago, I haven't been able to stop thinking about the painting winner Nathan Thomas created for his dining room in the final challenge.

I've even had dreams where I copy his technique and create one almost as stunning as his.
Apparently my dreams didn't do it justice.

i've already chosen a wall

"What I do know is that it seems natural for me to make things and that I find immense joy in the act of thing making and for that reason I do it every day." - Mark Warren Jacques

I could buy it based on his sentiment alone. It doesn't hurt that it's beautiful.
